Check Out My Substack

Hey Everybody! Check out my new Substack. It's called "Irony, Sarcasm and Snide Remarks". I just published my first post there. As my old English teachers will attest, I've been writing creatively for a really long time in human years. My novel Desolation Road has inspired three major motion pictures (that I know of) and a successful cable TV series. When I was told that my writing would be influential, I wasn't promised wealth and fame, but I'm satisfied with what I have. Writing is a calling, and perhaps a bit of a curse. My first Substack post "On Prayer" is live, so check it out. I've never considered myself to be a real preachy kind of a guy, but god and religion are the subjects of several of my works. I think spirituality is a significant aspect of the reality we find ourselves in and I woke up this morning with this subject on my mind. So there you go. I hope you like it. I don't always set out writing with the intention of offending...

Censorship is an Admission of Failure

All these new laws they're trying to pass against "hate speech", in which they try to redefine speech as violence, are an admission of falsehood. If the people trying to pass these laws had any arguments, facts, logic or reasoning which could support their position, they would fight falsehood with truth. But they are not on the side of truth. They are not on the side of honesty. They are not on the side of the free and open dissemination of ideas the founders found necessary to government of the people, for the people and by the people. If they were, they wouldn't need censorship. No. These people advocating new censorship laws in the congress hate freedom. They have no plausible arguments for their positions because their political ideology is a religious faith, rather than a reasoned argument. "You can't question the vaccine, just take it," they say. "You can't question the war, just pay for it," they say. If you won't, well you'...

On Elections

I remember when I was a kid, going to the polling place at the local junior high school. Everything about the polling place was clean, orderly and well organized. We had special voting booths which were only used for elections. I used to go into the booth with my dad when he voted. I had to behave myself because voting was serious business back then. The booth was plenty big enough for both of us. It had a curtain hanging over the entrance. The curtains were all the same: broad alternating vertical stripes of red and white. There were monitors guarding the booths to ensure that only one voter went in at a time. The voter was to remain undisturbed and in complete privacy. There were never any errors or disruptions. Everything always went smoothly. Voting day was like a religious holiday. Everybody got time off work to vote and some people were given the whole day off. Inside the voting booth there was a machine. The voter inserted their ballot into the machine and pulled the variou...

Apocalypse Now

The government of the United States of America is starting world war three and it will probably go nuclear. The math is not difficult to calculate. Russia is surrounded by NATO countries. The US government expanded NATO right up to Russia's borders in violation of prior agreements. They have sent a large portion of the NATO arsenal to Ukraine for the purpose of attacking Russia. American troops are already on Russia's borders in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. They have given the Ukrainian occupation government the green light to bomb deep inside of Russia. This situation cannot end well. All NATO countries are actively involved in attacking Russia. However, Russia is expected to abide by NATO's rules. NATO insists that Russia may only defend itself within the borders of Ukraine. How long do you think that Russia will continue to play by NATO's rules when American bombs are falling on Saint Petersburg and Moscow? They have nukes and they will use those nukes to ...

No Weapons for Ukraine

The news is out that more than 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war against Russia. That's almost as many as the number of Americans who die of drug overdoses every year. Our government doesn't seem to care about drug overdose deaths, so why should we care if 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died? I care about Americans dying of drug overdoses, and I care about Ukrainians dying in a stupid war. It is bad government policy to allow a nation's populace to be exterminated by any means. Theoretically, the purpose of government is to serve the people and protect the welfare of the people. This is why I am against supplying Ukraine with weapons. To do so impoverishes Americans, and it kills many thousands of Russians and Ukrainians. Russians and Ukrainians are very much the same people. To support a war between them is fundamentally identical to supporting a war between Texas and the United States. Ukraine has a very ancient culture which goes back to the very b...

Defund Ukraine

How much more proof do you need that the government of the USA cares nothing for American citizens? They are sending untold billions of dollars to Ukraine in a giant money laundering scheme while Americans suffer. That is proof, plain and simple, that the USA is not a democracy and that American elections are fake. We go to the polls but the government doesn't give a shit about us. Our "elected" politicians utterly disregard the well-being of the American people to send weapons to Ukraine. This war is not about democracy. This war is not about our values. This war is about enriching politicians and powerful campaign donors, but most especially, this war is about destroying western civilization economically, politically and genetically. Make no bones about it. The powers that be hate people of European descent and want to kill us all. Why else would they provoke world war three over Russian internal affairs. There is no justification whatsoever for the United States and N...

To Be Indigenous

I was listening to NPR this morning as I often do when I heard an interesting story about the Ojibwe tribe in Canada and the northern United States. What I found most interesting about the story was the discussion by the Ojibwe of their religious feeling for the landscape and how their religious belief ties them to the land. I completely identify with their connection to the land, air and water. We should recognize that the destruction of the environment in which we live really is an attack on our people. We cannot live without the Earth, air and water. When large powerful corporate and governmental organizations attack the environment in which we live, they truly attack our very existence as a people. The story on NPR discussed how corporations producing and transporting natural gas are responsible for polluting a river sacred to the Ojibwe. It presented how the Ojibwe view their rivers and lakes where they harvest wild rice as integral to their religion and identity. This seems ...
