Check Out My Substack
Hey Everybody! Check out my new Substack. It's called "Irony, Sarcasm and Snide Remarks". I just published my first post there. As my old English teachers will attest, I've been writing creatively for a really long time in human years. My novel Desolation Road has inspired three major motion pictures (that I know of) and a successful cable TV series. When I was told that my writing would be influential, I wasn't promised wealth and fame, but I'm satisfied with what I have. Writing is a calling, and perhaps a bit of a curse. My first Substack post "On Prayer" is live, so check it out. I've never considered myself to be a real preachy kind of a guy, but god and religion are the subjects of several of my works. I think spirituality is a significant aspect of the reality we find ourselves in and I woke up this morning with this subject on my mind. So there you go. I hope you like it. I don't always set out writing with the intention of offending people, generally not. But sometimes it happens. As an old friend of mine once said, "I'd rather have a friend than an enemy." I hold that to be true and it guides my interactions with others. Nonetheless, I sometimes write with a dramatic style and even intend to shock people out of their complacency. That being said, I have been censored on numerous occasions. Thankfully, I have not been sued or directly threatened with imprisonment in an overt manner. One could persuasively argue that my writings have resulted in various sanctions. But c'est la vie. I have acquired some acceptance for this aspect of my gift. I would say to anyone who feels offended by my work: "Please look at my writing as a challenge to people to expand their thinking." Creative writing is a part of the shared public discourse which our founders found necessary to the functioning of our democratic republic. We certainly do not live in a democracy, thank god or the gods, which ever you prefer. Censorship is inimical to freedom and liberty. I hate censorship with a passion and believe that the freedom of speech should only be limited by reasonable statutes on slander and libel (which by the way are not sufficiently enforced). I reserve the right to change my opinion at anytime, due to the acquisition of new data, enhanced function of my third eye, or just because I feel like it. Occasionally, I say things which I don't really mean, are said in anger, when I was under the influence of alcohol, which are not fully fleshed out, or are simply sarcastic. The all-mighty artificial intelligence which harbors my online work may also engage in some editing and embellishment. I am in a constant state of evolution, although I hope with some core values and consistency. I embrace my personal evolution and see it as one of the goals of life. People should be permitted to grow. I believe that is an important value which my mentors have taught me throughout my life. I wish you all good luck and keep reading!
